Tis the Season

We decided to do the advent calendar a little different this year. We decided to make it more of a family activity and want to “give back” instead if eating a piece of candy counting down to Jesus’ Birthday.

Each morning  we’ll open up a paper with something to “do” on it instead of a piece of chocolate. Hopefully we’ll be able to pull it off… 24 days of  ”activities”will be fun!!

PS If you have any ideas feel free to suggest them, I need 3 more!!

sleepover party

Avery’s been begging to have a friend spend the night… her wish came true. Bella came to spend the night! Bella’s sister was sick, and we didn’t want Bella to get sick, so she had to spend the night! It was a week night, so not too much craziness…

The girls watched a movie and snuggled with Minnie (for a while). Then we painted and went for a walk. It was a full morning. Now Avery has a list of friends she wants to invite over for more “sleep over parties.” We’ll see…

carving & painting

We finally carved our pumpkins on October 30th- better late than never. Avery and I cleaned the pumpkin out- really it was all me, since Avery wouldn’t even come near the “goop.” Avery drew the face she wanted to have cut and Dan cut it out.

Avery painted her little pumpkin that she got from her school trip to the pumpkin patch.

She wrote the “boo” on there without us even knowing it. Great idea…

trick or treat

On Halloween we decided to head out to Camarillo to Coach & Beth’s to Trick or Treat. We got there and headed straight out to gather some candy. Then we took a dinner break, then back out again! We saw lots of great costumes, consumed some great food and ate a lot of candy!

Happy Halloween

We found a fabulous haunted house. There was a “Liberace” guy playing a piano up on a big pedastal. So we heard the music before we ever saw the house. It was circus music. Then we saw the clowns. They had 20 or more kids and adults walking around all dressed up as clowns. Then we saw the gymnasts!! They had a set of parallel bars set up and there were 2 boys doing tricks on them- amazing! Unfortunately we missed the “family friendly” time for the haunted house. Avery and I went around  one corner and she was done!

Coach & Beth were dressed up as “john & Kate.” We loved the costumes and accessories. Then their friends showed up as “John & Kate” too!! It wasn’t planned at all- hilarious.

Avery liked handing out the candy as much as getting the candy. She stationed herself at the front door to hand out candy. She wouldn’t give the kids who didn’t say “trick or treat” candy!

It was a good night! Thank you friends…

Pumpkins with grandma

We went out the eat and to the pumpkin patch with grandma. We have done this same routine for the last few years. We missed grandpa… but still had fun picking out the right pumpkin.

growing boy…

I finally took Sawyer in for a “well baby” check up. He hadn’t been to the doctor since he was 8 months old. Praise God,  we have fairly healthy children and have not had to take them in to see the doctor.

Sawyer @ 14 months

Sawyer @ 14 months

Sawyer’s Stats;

20 pounds 3 ounces

28 inches long

Compared to other 14 month old boys he is on the “little” side. Since the doctor doesn’t have much to compare to, she wants him to come in 6 weeks to see if he is gaining. He may just be little, or he could have something else going on. Good news is, he is not anemic and doesn’t have lead in his body!! She wants us to up his calories, but not sugar. He also needs to drink more whole milk. Milk, it does the body good!!

Sawyer has “breath-holding tantrums.” When he gets mad or gets hurt he breaths in and in and in, without taking in more air. His lips turn blue, then his nose turns blue… scary. Well, this is “normal” and not to worry unless he passes out (then call the doctor) and he will hopefully grow out of it.

Sawyer did get half of his 6 months shots and a flu shot. He did fine with the shots. He was done crying by the time I got his pants on. He slept a lot- he took a nap for over 5 hours, then slept all night (12 hours). Those shots take it out of him!! Now we have to finish up the 6 months shots, and get his 12 and 15 month shots.
