Discovery Center of Idaho

We went to the Discovery Center with the gang the other day. My parents bought the “grandparents pass,” so all the kids got in for free and they had free passes for the adults. I thought it would be over Avery’s head but some of the stuff was definitely great for her age.  There were 4 large rooms full of science stuff and a few smaller rooms on the side. It was a bit overwhelming for Avery, she kept jumping from exhibit to exhibit… not sure where to go next. Her favorite exhibits were the animal hospital and the grocery store. They were the hands on and play with stuff exhibits, like the one we go to in Oxnard, Gull Wings.

The grocery store was pretty cool. They had small grocery carts and hand carts. The kids went “shopping” for groceries then they could check them out at the check stand. Then they are supposed to put the groceries back in their cart and go to an area to sort them to have them put back on the shelves. She and Josh stayed in the store for over 30 minutes.

The pet hospital was great too. There were a bunch of pets (stuffed animals) and carriers to put them in. There were bowls for food & water, collars, leashes… two tables to have the animals checked out on and of coarse doctor coats to wear too. There were a bunch of x-rays that were labeled to check out too. There was one of a snake that had mouse bones in it!!

Even my niece (16 years old) stayed the whole time, 2 and a half hours. She was planning on staying only half an hour then leaving to do some other stuff.

It was pretty crowded too. We went on a Sunday. It opened at noon and we got there at 1. It was so big that is wasn’t crowded (no standing around).

By getting the membership my parents can take the grandkids to a long list of museums- one is in Santa Barbara!! we’ll be going there a few times over the next year.

Tubbing

Avery, Dan and everyone else here, but me, Sawyer and my parents went tubbing on Christmas day. It was snowing all night and all morning so we weren’t sure if tubbing was even going to be possible, but it was great up on the mountain. Avery wants to go again and faster!

satisfaction guaranteed

Here is the situation- you bought some snow boots, used them only a few times (when it snows, not so much). The last time you wore them you got a rash on the back of your ankle. This is the first time you’ve had a problem with them. Do you try to return the boots even though you have worn them a half dozen times over the last few years?

school pictures

Avery had her school pictures done a while ago. I am very impressed with them. They took three poses with two backgrounds. They printed all the pictures and we chose which sheets to keep.

pics

We went to Disneyland and I was determined to get a good picture of all of us… not so easy.

first picture

first picture

This was the first picture. I thought it would be nice to get “Small World” in the background, but the guy who took the picture got the line instead! Avery was making a silly face too- on purpose. As soon as we took the picture she told us she was making a silly face! UGH!

2nd picture

2nd picture

This was our 2nd try. We are a family of 4, not five!! The worker guy totally got in our picture!! As we took this picture in line people just went around us too- didn’t wait! I thought that was a little rude! Again, Avery making her silly face!!

third try

third try

This was the 3rd picture. Some line in the background, but some Small World too. Avery is sort of smiling, Sawyer not looking at all… oh well, we are the Camerons!!

Tradition… tradition!

Someone asked me what traditions we have at Christmas time… got me thinking. What do we do every year that would considered a “tradition.”

* Sadly, I am blanking!

What family traditions do you keep in your family for the holiday?

Snow in Ventura

We went to the snow at the mall.

Snow is fun!

Snow is fun!

This year Avery wanted to brave the “big kids” snow area. She held her own- but it was a good thing it wasn’t too crowded. Some of those big kids got a little wild!!

This might be only snow we get to play in this season. We are heading to Boise soon, but it’s been in the 50s…

We got to see a few of the performances. The last one we watched was a few “older” ladies (over 30) tap dancing. Dan asked why we were watching this… good point, that was our queue to leave! We headed to the last softball game of the season. Not to worry, a new one will start at the end of January.
