Singing in the rain…

Avery has been obsessive about taking walks the last few days. Dan loves walking in the rain, so he took Avery for a walk on Saturday.

Are you one of these people?

Lisa recently posted that she is a “follow the rules” person- well, so am I. I always
return my shopping cart, I use my turn signal all the time (maybe too much) and I always park in a designated parking spot.

When I pick up the kids after school there is a red curb about 10 feet on either side of the cross walk. There are always people parked there to pick up there kids. Sometimes they stay in the car and sometimes they actually park and walk across the street to get their kid. There is a sign there posted “No parking during school hours.” There is even another sign that has the times posted on it “between 7:30 and 3pm.” The police and metermaids have been out a few times and given out a few tickets.

I figure I parked and walked myself up the hill (a little hill, but a still an incline) the whole time I was pregnant and when Avery was in the infant seat. If she was sleeping I lugged the dang carrier thing up there.

I get to the school early enough to get a decent place to park. Even when I get there 10 minutes before school is even out there are people already parked in the red zone, by the crosswalk. It drives me CRAZY! Usually it is the same people.

If you are one of these people that park in the red zone where it is obviously posted, then please tell me WHY? The only reason I can think of is, if your young child were alseep in the car and you didn’t want to leave them locked in the car… but there is a designated place to sit in the car and wait for your kid- a driveway type thing.

A gift from the heart

Avery got a very special gift from Joey the other day. We were at the Strykers for a Wii tennis tournament and Avery was playing with the toys, espcially the Jesse doll and the baby stroller. When we were ready to leave Joey offered to give Avery the Jesse doll. I was so surprised and Avery took the doll and gave Joey a hug.

It gets better… As we were walking out the door Joey offered to give Avery the stroller too! How generous! Thanks Joey!

comments from a 9 year old

D:  I really don’t want Hillary Clinton to be President.

Me: Why is that?

D: Because she is a woman!

(I think he is repeating what he heard somewhere… hmmmm!)

————–

D: I love waffles. I want to have waffles for breakfast.

Me: Great. Are they the frozen kind?

D: No, I make them myself!

Me: You make batter and use a waffle iron?

D: Huh? I use a the toaster oven.

Me: You know you can make waffles by mixing a batter and a waffle iron, kind of like pancakes…

D: Oh… I think I’ve seen that before…
(He had no idea waffles can be made from scratch! We had a similar conversation about two years ago about chocolate chip cookies! Moms- please show your kids that not everything comes out of the freezer or a bag from the grocery store!!)

Complaint

Avery and I go to the Barnes & Noble pre-school reading time a few times a month. It is in the  morning, so it is mostly SAHM with kids 4 and under. Avery will finally sit through the stories. There is a “teacher” who reads 3 or 4 stories with a theme, then we do a craft.

Ok, so there is one girl who comes all the time that is not in pre-school. She is 7 and homeschooled by her mom. I find her very annoying because she answers questions the teacher asks (i.e. She was reading a rhyming story and was trying to get the kids to guess the next word. Or the teacher aks a question- what do you think will happen next) and the girl kept blurting it out!  She always comments on the books being read; I already read that book, I love that book, I have that book…

I just find her annoying. Since the reading time is for pre-schoolers I don’t think she should be there. She doesn’t have any younger siblings that are there so… why is she there? Am I just complaining?

Harvard Grad

I just got an email from my dad that an old friend of theres (and mine) just died. He was a sick old coot who had diabetes and was just plain old, but still sad.
He was a teacher in DoDDS (Departement of Defense Dependant School) for 40 some years.

He was the only person I knew that graduated from Harvard!

Christmas Eve

It is tradition that we have crepes on Christmas Eve and read “The Gift of the Magi.” This year I got to make the crepes- Grandma got run over by a reindeer! Last year my mom made them. We had brown sugar, powdered sugar and jam… not too healthy but good stuff.

It took a few times to get it right, but finally I got the flipping part down and make 40 some crepes! At the end of the evening I was so over crepes- I only had two.

Grandma recovered from the reindeer incident to read the story. Josh liked the listen to it real close and help turn the pages.

TUBBING

Yes, I know it’s really TOOOOBING, but my niece used to call it TUBBING.

null

We went tubing today at Bogus Basin and it was beautiful! It snowed last night so there was fresh stuff and today the sun was shining and not windy. My feet were still pretty cold but bearable. We all got to but Avery since she is too young- each person must be in their own tube, but next year…
