sick boy

Sunday Night

Sawyer is sick. He has a cold- runny nose, fever & nasty cough. He’s been sleeping ok, not wonderful, but still sleeping all night and a few shorter naps during the day (usually he has just one long one).

He’s ever been really been “sick.” He’s had a few colds, but very minor- no ear infections, no flu, not even any antibiotics as of yet.

This weekend he didn’t leave home- Dan and I tag teamed going out with Avery- 2 birthday parties, choir practice, a soccer game & church. He didn’t even get out of his pajamas.

Monday Morning

Decided to call the doctor and make an appointment this morning. Sawyer woke up about 30 minutes till 2 when we gave him Tylenol- he kept pulling on his ear, so I thought he had an ear infection. Still that yucky sounding cough. Poor baby, every time he coughs you can tell it hurts him. Thankfully he slept the rest of the night with no more wake-ups.

We did get to see the doctor in a timely manner- in the past we’ve been waiting up to 2 hours to see the doctor! He has a double ear infection, but his lungs are clear- no bronchitis.

He’ll start his very first round of antibiotics ever after his nap today. Hope he loves the taste…

escuela

We got the letter in the mail today from the school district. Avery was chosen, by lottery, to attend the TWI (two way immersion) program at Montalvo school. We are so excited. This opportunity is going to be awesome for our little girl. She’ll be fluent in Spanish & English in no time.

The first two years (Kinder & 1st grade) is 90% Spanish and 10% English. By 5th grade the class will be 50/50.

It’s getting more real. Our baby is going to Kindergarten!!

Ar-teest?

I’ve been able to take Sawyer with me to the latest class I’ve been teaching for the city. It’s called “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” and it’s for kids ages 18 months to 3 years. He’s just 18 months, and not interested in crafts at all. But I’ve been taking with me and he’s been ok. He kind of walks around the room and basically only joins us for snack. He does like the glue (very drippy & messy), the crayons he likes to much on and he likes to use the markers to draw on anything but paper. There are 5 kids in the class, all under 21 months- makes for one long hour!!

Today I decided to start off with the easels. Wasn’t sure how it would go over since the kids are pretty young.

Three kids hated it and two kids loved it- Sawyer was one of them!!

smock

Sawyer loved wearing the smock. He was really mad when I took it off of him to wash his hands. He kept going to wear the smocks were hanging up and “asking” me to get one down for him. I did it back on him, but he kept tripping on it since it was so long!

masterpiece

He loved the black paint. Avery kept wanting to trade him for another color and he refused! He did pretty well dipping the brush and getting it onto the paper, until he dropped the paintbrush on the ground. He still didn’t want to stop.

washing hands

After he was done painting (with some help from me), he went to wash his hands. There’s a step up for the kids to wash their hands, but Sawyer still can’t reach the water. He stretches his little arms, but can’t quite reach the water. It’s hilarious.

Disneyland

We hadn’t been to Disneyland in almost 3 months (shock)!!  3 months is a long time for us, we were trying to go once a month. Avery was pretty stoked to go. It was a little more special since we met up with the Brooks, who moved up north about a year and a half ago- right after Sawyer was born.

Avery in the front seat.

Avery’s main request was to get a picture with Tiana (from Princess & the Frog). We didn’t see Tiana at all, so I asked an employee and she told us we could go stand in line at the Princess Faire. That’s where you can stand on line and and “meet” 6 princesses at once, but the line was at least 90 minutes. So we missed her, maybe we’ll see her next time.

Last time we went, Sawyer was just starting to walk around on his own. This time, we was running around! It was a different experience.

the food

The food was Uh May Zing!

Breakfast 8am to 10 was a serve yourself buffet- granola & yogurt, fruit, fresh banana bread, toast, eggs to order, juice & coffee.

Lunch 1:30 ish. We ordered lunch at around 11. The chef (& his crew) made everything from scratch (pasta & breads too!). There were only 5 choices- pesto chicken sandwich is what i got most days. The kids had lunch a little earlier than us- either pasta with butter or grilled cheese for just about every meal- not so balanced. Between the choices they had for her and her being picky that was it- pasta or grilled cheese!

lunch time

Dinner- 7pm. Again we ordered dinner earlier so the chef can make it all fresh. I ordered lobster tail every night and Dan switched between steak & fish. It was so yummy.

Poodles

This morning I taught a “poodles” class. We did  few crafts then (surprise) stuffed a pink poodle. I usually don’t let Avery keep the animals we stuff in a class, or else she’s had (more than) way too many stuffed animals.

She played with the dog at the park after the class. She named her Diamond. She made a whole life for Diamond… the food she likes, her favorite colors, her friends…

After lunch she has her “rest” time and she played with the Diamond the whole time. She came and asked for my phone, I thought to probably play a game, but here are the pictures I found that she took;

Notice the book she laid out for them to read!!

She likes “themes.” I have no idea where she gets that from…

gamer

We’ve been more into playing board games. While we were in Boise, we played a lot of games- Scrabble, Sequence, Clue, Sorry, Traffic Jam, Uno…

sequence

Dan taught Avery to play ti-tac-toe and she loves it. She plays a dozen games a day, with each of us! One of  the latest activites at Lowes was a tic tac toe game! Wonderful, now we can play all the time!! Anywhere!!

From tic tac toe I thought of Connect 4, we borrowed it from a friend. Did you know that Connect 4 is about $20 new in the store?!? Crazy! She is getting pretty good at it too. She figured out that the best place to make her first move is in the center. She is always red and we have to be black.

Now we are playing more card games. We’ve been playing Old Maid & Go Fish. Old Maid is a little hard for her to hold all the cards in her hands, so she likes Go Fish better.

She doesn’t like Uno! She gets the idea of the game- get rid of the cards by color or number. She just doesn’t like it. Weird!!

What games are next?

new peeps

the whole crew

Dan had met a few of the guys face to face but mostly on phone calls and email connections. I had never met nor talked to anyone that was going on this trip. Great! I honestly had no idea how it  was going to go- either absolutely fabulous or it was going to be a very LONG 10 days! Well, it turned to be FAN YOU LUSS!!

We think it’s crazy- amazing that S&P were able to bring together 15 people from all over the US & Canada that have so much in common and got along so well. Fabulous!!

The laptops & iphones were 1 to 1!

Everyone was SO helpful with the kids. It was astonishing that every person was there to help at any moment with either kid without us even asking, they just stepped right in.

Avery made a life long friend that she asks about just about everyday still. She wants to sing and swim with her friend Lindsey. She already checked on the map where Jaclyn lives in Canada.

Thank you S&P for the trip of a lifetime. We are looking forward to next year. Avery’s suggestion for next year is… Las Vegas!

hike in the jungle

While in Panama we went on a hike through the jungle. We had a local guy, mashete and all, to guide us through the jungle. It took us about two hours to make a circle around. By the time we got back we were hot & tired. Ready to jump into the pool!!

Dan wasn't sure which shoes to wear...

We were told it was going to be muddy, so some people chose to wear the rubber boots (Wellies) that Popa had while others just wore tennis shoes. It did get pretty muddy. What an adventure.

Sawyer was a happy camper

Muddy! Avery "danced" on Peter's feet to get across.

We saw lots of colorful plants, trees, vines and SPIDERS!!

at the end of the hike- hot & tired
