new life?

I was finally able to go to sleep doctor to go over the sleep test results. I was a little nervous- just not knowing what he was going to say. Am I crazy? Do I really have a problem? YES! I do. The results were a classic case of narcolepsy with cataplexy. I already knew that, I had diagnosed myself with that years ago. Now a professional agrees and I have proof!!

The sleep test proves that I definitely have narcolepsy. During the nighttime test I went into REM with 6 times (a normal person goes into REM 2 or 3 times a night) and only stayed in REM a short amount of time.

Daytime sleep test- I was asleep within 2 minutes and in REM within 4 minutes during each of the daytime naps I was allowed to take. I was able to take a 30 minutes nap, then had to stay awake for 90 minutes before taking another 30 minute nap. The graphs were crazy to look at.

What are we going to do about it? The doctor is awesome, he really wants to help me “change my life.” I am excited to try out a new drug that I take at night to help regulate sleep patterns. Hopefully I’ll only have to take drugs at night and not at all during the day. I can’t even imagine my life not having to take a nap every single day. The possibilities are endless!! I am hoping to be able to start these new drugs on Tuesday night.

The doctor did tell me that usually narcolepsy is a diseases that is passed down from generation to generation, and to keep an eye out on my kids. If they start to exhibit any signs… please Lord, NO!!  The signs usually show up around puberty.

Here’s to a “new life.” Cheers!!
